MOC Leader Karla Valdez was presented with the Richard O’Brien and the Mary Ferrario O’Brien Public Service Award by the San Rafael City Council on May 4. Valdez was recognized for her advocacy work through Vecinos del Canal, helping to improve conditions in the Canal neighborhood of San Rafael. She has volunteered in many other capacities as well, including through the Marin Community Clinics food bank, the Raising Reader program with Parent Services Project, and as a member of the San Rafael Police Advisory and Accountability Committee. Her work with MOC has focused on improving youth mental health services.
